Back in Print: “Baseball is Just Baseball”: The Understated Ichiro

This little book, which I reviewed last year, is back in print, now with a new cover. I don’t think this would’ve happened if Ichiro had been traded to, say, Kansas City… Buy it here.

Ichiro Pitches for Yunker (Again)

Last year I did a post on Ichiro’s ads for Yunker energy drinks, but none of ’em are as amazing as their new ones. Above is an embeddable behind-the-scenes clip; the actual ads can be seen here.

Ikkyu Update

Ichiro and his wife Yumiko are doing okay adjusting to life in New York, but Ichiro’s dog is not:

It’s my dog, Ikkyu, that is having a hard time adjusting to the city life. So I’m definitely worried about him, and hopefully he can get used to New York City…. He grew up with a lot of greens around and a lot of fields, and he could run around. Now he’s in a high-rise building with a lot of noise, so he has a lot of stress.

Super Ichiro Crazy Crime Stoppers

Early this morning, a surveillance camera caught some guy breaking into the Mariners team store at Safeco Field, where he made off with 16 discounted Ichiro jerseys — story.

If you have any information about this case, please call the police.

Ichiroll Update

Tonight was my first post-Ichiro game at Safeco Field, where I found the original Ichiroll (spicy tuna, served by Seattle’s Ricenroll), had been replaced with a new one, a spicy salmon roll with shrimp and crab, presented by “Safeco Field Sushi.” I don’t know if the change happened before or after his trade to New York.

In any case, as I said before, Yankee Stadium now serves the Suzuki Roll (“spicy salmon, cucumber & avocado topped w/ spicy yellow tail infused with mango”).

They all sound good to me.

Also, some Ichiro-esque quotes from yesterday’s New York Times article, Jeter Chips Away at Hits Record as Rose Watches: “The toughest thing about baseball is you don’t know why you’re doing — or not doing — this or that.” At age 38, “It’s not that your physical body gains weight, but that your thinking gains weight.”
